Cardboard Kayaking Event 2015

September 4th, 2015

Cardboard kayaking equals laughter, dedication and soggy bottoms…

A perfect combination for a silly evening in Fishguard.

On bank holiday Monday 31st of August 2015 a very crazy cardboard kayaking event happened in the quaint little Welsh harbour of Lower Town Fishguard. As evening approached twenty two cardboard kayaks arrived on the quay each one built with love, dedication and a sense of humour. Why were they here?  To race in a series of silly challenges while knowing that eventually that inevitable sinking feeling will happen…

While the cardboard kayaking entrepreneurs went about their intrepid sinking activities the spectators, a few hundred of them, enjoyed the excellent music (provided by Chris Tullet Entertainment), Food to die for (lovingly cooked by Jo and her team at the Cafe on the Quay) and Drinks from the Fishguard Bay Yacht club.

The whole event was filled with cheering and laughter.

The atmosphere was electric as the cardboard kayaking competitors took on our course. Some of the kayaks had a very short but sweet entry into the event and went down with massive smiles to the audiences delight.

While other competitors lasted for well over half an hour.

One cardboard kayak made by the Fishguard Sea Cadets, piloted by Molly, lasted the whole competition, survived capsize and was still sea worthy at the end of the night. They put it back onto their trailer and took it home again!!!! Truly impressive and well deserved Last Kayak standing award.

Good things come to those who wait…

Many of you will know that I have been adventuring  for over ten years with my best friend Olivia (Libby) Chivers of fame.

From the moment we met we have been on a constant search for the next fun challenge… These adventures have seen us travel far and wide in search of the next river to paddle, Surf to surf, rock to climb or just being plain silly on a beach some where… Pembrokeshire is our home and playground, Skomer island is just one of our many favourite places to go kayaking while on a day off from work.

I made this little film below to celebrate our day and to share our happiness with the world… It’s full of fun and silliness annnd a little bit of love. Hope you enjoy…

Recognised as a Top Performing Attraction as Reviewed by Travellers on the
World’s Largest Travel Site.

22, May, 2014 – Kayak-King providers of kayaking trips along the Pembrokeshire national park, today announced that it has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence award. The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide. Establishments awarded the Certificate of Excellence are located all over the world and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on the website.

When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the honorees that takes into account reviews ratings. Businesses must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, volume and recency of reviews. Additional criteria include a business’ tenure and popularity ranking on the site.

“Winning the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence is a true source of pride for the entire team at Kayak-King and we’d like to thank all of our past guests who took the time to complete a review on TripAdvisor,” said Ant Goddard, Owner and head guide at Kayak-King. “There is no greater seal of approval than being recognised by one’s customers. With the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence based on customer reviews, the accolade is a remarkable vote of confidence to our business and our continued commitment to excellence.

“TripAdvisor is pleased to honour exceptional hospitality businesses for consistent excellence,” said Marc Charron, President of TripAdvisor for Business. “The Certificate of Excellence award gives top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most – their customers. From Australia to Zimbabwe, we want to applaud exceptional hospitality businesses for offering TripAdvisor travellers a great customer experience.”

Award Winning Kayak Company!

May 5th, 2014

Scoot award for kayaking business.

Kayak-King has won a Scoot Headline Award in the national campaign to find Britain’s most successful companies.

We’re very proud to announce that we have been crowned the best company in Wales by national business directory Scoot, in the Scoot National Headline Awards held on Monday 28th April. The annual SCOOT Awards is one of the most prestigious business awards in the UK that recognizes and rewards the successes and achievements of British businesses, large and small. Actress and TV personality Ebony Feare presented the award to Ant Goddard, managing director of Kayak-King.

On Monday, we travelled to the awards ceremony, held at Millbank Tower in London, having been short listed for the award earlier in the year. The event was attended by companies from all over the UK, ranging from small independent businesses such as hairdressers and letting agencies to large national companies.

After watching all the other winners of the awards for the regional nominations. We were starting to wonder if we had been forgotten, at this point we had no idea that had been elevated into the National nominations… Then came the main event and we are thrilled to have won the Silver award. When presenting the award, the judges commented: “We were amazed to here Ant Goddard’s story after deciding to go it alone with the mission of bringing a new level of quality to the activity market. Ant started his company with an estate car, some kayaks and a load of passion. Two years on the company goes from strength to strength with new employees, a perfect customer service record and is now one of the big providers in Britain’s activity industry. A massive achievement in such a small amount of time, proving passion and hard work pays off!”

As well as picking up our trophy and certificate which now take pride of place in the Kayak-King office, we made some great contacts at the event, some of whom we are planning to work with in the near future – so all in all, it was a great day out! We’d like to thank Scoot for picking us as winners of the award, and we hope that this is the first of many awards for Kayak-King.
